7.25 vs. 8.75 widths

so i found this chart for rear axle widths comparing the 7.25 to the 8.75...

im trying to figure out where in relation is the new 8.75 gonna be...

looks like its shorter?? or is the difference taken up by the flange to axle flange distance??

I could be wrong here but I THINK the brake width make up the difference. I am picking up a 8 1/4 to replace the 7 1/4 and am wondering the same thing........
 
Itll add an inch to each side going from a 7 to an 8, shouldnt be an issue, but the driveshaft needs to be shortened about 2.25 inches as the pinion snout is longer on the 8.75

ok thats what i thought! im looking at backspacing for wheels and thinking that the norm wouldn't fit! thx
 
That chart is not correct. If you search on moparts, where the chart originated from, they will all tell you that. DO NOT build a rear based on that chart!!!!!
