You probably have a power steering coupler on the car which as you found out wont fit a manual box. The coupler comes apart by taking the seal retainer off and driving in the little (1/8") pin near the seal end, the coupler will then slide off the shaft. Dont loose any of the pieces when you slide the coupler off, there will be two square shoes, a flat metal spring and the little pin that you pushed into the coupler and also a big wad of grease. Leave the bigger pin in the steering column unless its worn, its a pain in the *** to drive it out while the column is in the car. Note the location of the master spline in relation to the column shaft so you put the coupler on 180* out of phase.
