70's 340 block with X heads

I'm looking to buy a 340 block from the 70's with X heads. What can I expect to pay or what have other members paid for a long block 340 motor. Thanks

well, i just past up a shortblock in stock bore for 500.00. i was told that you have to be careful, cause the time you rebuild and yaddy yaddy...........then how do you know if the heads are not cracked? it is always better to hear them run if possible

We just did a thread on this and I think it was between $600 and $4,700.

A 1970-74 340 block will have J heads(70-71 have the 2.02 intake valves). The 68/69's have the X heads. Either one is kick ***. I picked up my 1970 J head(69 date code) for $400. But I was lucky. Be patient and the deal will come your way.
