71 340 motor

[68 CUDA FORMULA S]

I have decided to go through this 1971 340 motor that I have sitting on the stand and get it ready for a future project. My question to you who know is, were all the 1971 340 motors painted orange?

No, I have a 71 Challenger convert with a blue 340...

Orange except for late 71-340's with electronic ignition which were blue.

OK this motor is a Hamtramck motor with a casting date of 7-3-70 so I am guessing that it is early 71 and should be orange? am I wrong or right?

Most likely right. The more correct date is the assembly date just under the head DS front. Very late march first week in April SPD is the cutoff for orange in MOST cases.
