71/4 axles

will 71/4 axles work in a 83/4 housing as far as lenght ? what about the brakes drums ? thanks

No and no

Length may be the same????

But you have to also account for bearing size, splines, flange to bearing spacing, bearing seal spacing.


As for backing plates, the 7 1/4 SBP had a smaller diameter center hole for the bearing. (Could be machined) and no 5th bolt hole (could be added)

No, nothing interchanges with those axles except for the drums if you have 10" on your 7-1/4. They also have a 4-bolt flange while and 8-3/4 has a 5 bolt flange...
