I've got a friend who found a complete 71 400 motor. He diassembled it and sent the block to the machine shop to be checked, which magged good. He's also got a steel crank from a 440 - perfect for a 451 Stroker. He is contemplating using this combo in his 78 mil spec truck but also thinking to sell it as well. I told him I'd ask the experts as to what his block and crank is worth (just in case he decided to sell).

Tell him I'd buy it for $300. I'm not too far away in Maryland. PM me

They say 71 is the best year for the 400 due to the extra webbing and thick walls! $300 for the block and crank would be an easy sell!! Geof

Las year I bought a running '73 400-2 (supposed 60K mile) complete with trans, exhaust, mounts, alt, etc for $300.

Ther's no truth to the "230" block without a sonic test to accompany the block. So it's basically a magged good core. I sell them for $300. The crank isn't worth much given what's available now. Call it $50 for a good core forged 440 crank.
