What are the major or minor differences between the 71 and 72 demons? I was looking for a front clip and the guy I talked to said there was a difference between them. I thought they were the same. Are the marker lights in a different spot? I have been looking at pics but can't tell because most reference them together.

they are almost the same car really....the 71 had a 71 dart front clip on it. the 72 had a 72 dart front clip on it. that being said you can make a 71 a 72 by changeing the front clip. the same can be done for a 72 turning it to a 71. the doors on back to the rear bumper they are the same car. 72 had plastic marker lights and 71 had chrome marker lights. really that is about it in a readers digest format.....

Like he siad, but the 72 fenders are really a one year fender due to the maker light style. 72 was the first year for those plastic generic sidemakers and I think they were even hung higher up on the fender than the 71 Style. The inner fender on the passenger side of a 72 Dart/Demon has an indentation for either the charcoal canister, or, on / cars, it allows more room for alternator adjustment.
The grill in the 71 is the same as a 70 Dart, except it is blacked out. The 72 Grill is again a one year grill. The 71 Demon 340 cars used the ralley gauges and the 72 340 cars used the same gauges as the standard engine cars. There are minor interior differences but I can't think of any specific ones right now other than the 72 Demon possibley having a cardboard headliner vs. the cloth of previous years.

The marker lights are different as stated above. So is the grill. I personally like the 71 grill better and dont know why they changed it.
The 71 also used a decal for the Demon on the fender but the 72 used a metal emblem.

The 72 "should" have the cardboard headliner. However, the early build 72's can have a cloth headliner.

The only other differences that come to mind would be on the rallye wheels. The 72 used the later "bell" style cap. Again, an ealry build car coudl have had the older style caps.

This is a duster BUT it shows the difference in 71-72 marker lights , if you look closely you can see that the front is 72, the rear is 71, this is where we came up with 7172 duster, I hope this helps.
