I've got to install the scoop and stripes and paint the blackout on a 71 Dart for a customer and have a couple of questions. First off how far forward on the hood should the scoop go? Second, the stripe kit he has has 5 stripes where as the two pictures I found on line have 4 stripes. Now the picture of the orange car looks like the 5th stripe is over the paint but the blue car does not look like that. Anyone have any input? Thanks!

Also, the back studs of the scoop are located on the outer two access holes of the frame for the hood. I believe they are there on 71 & 72 hoods, but not 70.

Holes were also cut on the 72 for air when scoop was used. 71 the stripe was used on the Sizzler package, and no scoops or holes were available.

Here are pictures. If you need more on the mounting of the scoop. I will be doing one in a week on a 71 Demon hood . Some of the Late 71 hoods had the inner with the holes, Plus I'll be punching the 4 inch holes in.

The layout page I was referring to is the decals on the paper is a direct copy of our layout page for making decals. The person you purchased the decal copied out work.

Not the pages out of manual.

WOW!

Moving right along on it. Holes all drilled, scoop repaired and all prepped for paint. Tomorrow morning I'll mask and paint the black and then in a couple days apply the vinyl.

I'm not asking this to pick at whether something is as it came from the factory.

Was the double snorkle hood scoop available on any car in 1971 or did that start in 1972? I thought the 1971 340 Demons all came with twin scoops in 71. I'm just curious.

The Snorkel scoop was only available on 72 340 demons or 73-74 340 Dart sports . The "Direct Connection" manual notes the Snorkel and T/A scoops as the best production forced air scoops.

I bought a 71 Sizzler winchester gray drag car back in the early 80's from the original owner. He had the Snorkel, dealer installed. The hood did not have the defusers as the original snorkel hood did. They had a triangle hole cut between the inner frame.

He bought the Sizzler 318 3 spd to get the graphics and avoid the higher insurance rates and then installed his own built engine and 4 spd and raced it . I saved the hood after I stripped the car and put it on a 340 bahama yellow car. many cars back in the 80's had a snorkel scoop. you saw them on Camaros. Novas. Mustangs. GTOs and many others. They were an easy to bolt on performance piece you could buy at your local dodge dealer.

Looks great. I am low on Organisol, what did you use. I am going to save what I have left for my Challenger T/A hood. Going in storage on a wall as wall art untill needed. Plan to shoot it and later when used scuff shoot with proper Organisol. I am a fan of the original paint. It's not rough but has black, silver and gray mixed in with the texture. It looks good on the scoop and spolier next to the vinyl black out I got from Phoenix Graphix.
Welcome to the black out hood scoop club.

On this one the customer isn't worried about originality about I just used Sem Hot Rod Black. Always get good results with it.
