There`s a 72 Demon 340 advertised in the paper here. It`s listed as all original and running good but in need of restoration. What would you think it`s worth? The guy`s asking $2800.00. I was wondering if I should take the time to go look at it?

I would never see that good a price out here in southern calif. :sad8: so I would jump at it. At least go and check it out. Definatly try and talk them down, but if it runs good and there is no serious damage or anything I would go for it. That is my opinion anyway.

longgone you haven't left yet? lol...seriously if that is a numbers matching car then you should jump on it. it's a steal at that price as long as it is runner. many parts are available for it....let us know how it works out...

Thog ,those Ca. cars are usually relatively free of rust, which generally brings a premium. The cars in the east here are much more likely to be rusted. Perhaps even with a minimum amount of rust she`d be worth giving it a go. I hope this ones clean because I`m considering checking it out tomorrow. If I don`t bite ( and the guy hasn`t sold the car yet) I`ll post his ph. no..

That`s an interesting thread, as the prices are all over the charts! (generally high though) I`ll check this one out and report my findings. Anything in particular about these 72 Demons that I should ask about? Shouldn`t this car have a vin on the engine and trans to match the one on the dash? This is also the first year of the smogged down 340, w/smaller valves and lower compression, big thermoquad, blue engine, electronic ign.? Are there any problem areas I should check out? What should I look for in particular? Thanks.

yes it will have j heads. small valves? maybe...i have seen some that had big valves from the factory. i guess it just depends if they were early or late castings. blue engine, yes. electronic ignition, yes. vin will match the block and the tranny if numbers matching.vin will also be in the core support on drivers side. i guess the usual questions here apply, fender tag there? suregrip rear? what documentation does it come with? ect... check trunk out for rust, and floor pans. non lean burn thermoquad will be there for sure (no electric hookups going to it). been upgraded to the bigger bolt pattern yet? should be small bolt pattern. other than that standard fair with any car apply. post some pics if you can, and i'll give a look. maybe something will jump out at me. good luck with it and let us know how it turns out!

I called the guy today to go take a look at the car, and to no surprise the car was sold. It came out in the paper last Tuesday and was sold by Friday. I guess it WAS a good deal. Moral of the story: You snooze, you lose!
