I'm making the internal parts to repair the 72 up Dart - Duster - Demon Dash

The gaskets, and the light separators.

But now I see there are 2 housings that are "...different , but the same!" (bonus points if you know the movie quote reference)

Anyone know what the hole red circle is for and maybe what year they changed the separator mounting (green circle / blue arrows)

Type 1
Red circle, What is that for
Green circle, oval gasket
Blue arrows, the light separator tabs are inside the light separator
Black circle, no recessed round hole

Type 2

Red circle, No hole
Green circle, No oval gasket and no remnants of one
Blue arrows, the light separator tabs are outside the light separator
Black circle, recessed round hole

Type 3

Red circle, Rectangular hole no screw holes and no recessed area
Green circle, No oval gasket and no remnants of one
Blue arrows, the light separator tabs are the same as type 2 but no center separator tabs
Black Circle, Recessed round hole

I want to say that's where the fasten seat belt light was on later units, but I'm not 100% sure I'm looking at that right.

(black) recessed hole is for "fasten seatbelts" indicator - 1972 was the first year

(red) rectangular hole was for EGR system indicator - 75? was the first year

Red rectangular hole was from 67-69 plymouth valiant and early 70 flasher switch before it moved to column. The 70 and later bezel covers that hole but the early housings still got it.

If they have not been rubbed off, 4 digit date code was stenciled on back of housing.
Those date codes would help determine the year of the housing.

the one i have is a type 2 but so rusted on the back there is nothing visable

Info below is for 69-76 A bodies with out rallye dash.

1969 - up to October 1971 housing part number 2771201.
As stated in post 4, the red rectangular hole was a hang over from the 1969 housing and serves no purpose in 1970 and early 71. This describes type 1 photo.

After October 1971 thru 1974 housing part number 3592201.
This version used the seat belt light circled in black.
Shown in type 2 photo.

1975 housing part number 3592962.
Used EGR and Seat belt light circled in red and black.
Shown in type 3 photo.

1976 housing part number 3593551.
Same as 1975 with one difference.
The IVR changed shape in 1976 so the hole behind the speedometer for the regulator is different.

Just a side note about type 3 photo:
The speedometer is not original.
75 and 76 used 100 mph speedometer.

Believe the black gasket circled in green type 1 was used on 69 to early 71.
Center tabs with blue arrows seen in photo 2 were removed from the 75-76 housing seen in photo 3.
Both used the same brake - oil warning light bulb separator.
