Hi, I have a new to me 66 dart with a 440. It has a "New a year ago" transmission, I assume is a 727. I have driven it 100-200 miles since I have owned it and never noticed any transmission problems. The fluid is red and didn't smell burnt as of purchase date.

Yesterday I was looking around the car, trying to figure out how to get a functional shroud on the fan when I noticed that the tranny cooler and lines were very cool. The car had been driven a few miles a little bit before this and the radiator was still quite hot.

Is this normal?
If not, what could cause a lack of tranny fluid to the cooler?

Cooler plugged up? disconnect it and loop a hose between the lines and see if you get heat if not maybe you haven't driven it far enough to get the trans hot.

It takes a while for the trans fluid to come up to running temperature.....like 15-25 min at 90 degrees outside temp (depending on outside temps and how fast you're driving). If the ambient temp is below 60/70 it takes even longer. I have a trans temp gage on my transmission so I know how long it takes. treblig
