727 kick down in A-Body

Hey Guys I put a 440 w/727 trans into my 70'Dart. I'm just about at the end of my project and run into a problem. The original kick down rod hits the automatic column linkage and won't let it move. Does anyone have an easy (or hard) solution to hooking up the trans kick down in an a-body with a 440? I've talked to others who used the universal cable from Lokar and they say it is a very poor hook-up and even harder to adjust. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave!!!!!!!!! Oh ya is it possible to cut the original rod and re-weld it around the column linkage and still have it work well?

I have a Bouchillon (sp?) performance cable kickdown on my 440 belvedere, my wife's 66 cuda and I put one on my buddy's 68 340 cuda and they all work great.

Or you could put in a manual valvebody.
