Hello everybody, new guy here and I just got a 1965 Dodge Dart GT Convertible. First Mopar I've worked on, and I've got to work on a sketchy shift linkage.
Someone swapped a 318 and 727 into this dart, specifically I believe a 63-65 727 which has the dual cable setup, one cable for shifting through gears, and another which engages the park pawl at the rear of the transmission. The previous owner who I bought it from said it had some shifter linkage issues, so I started working on the parking cable since I knew I couldn't get the thing in park. I did some reading and got the cable out before lowering the housing, and found that I am missing a part inside that housing.
This is what the inside of my housing was like after I put the cable back in.
The part that I am missing is this:
I've looked around and not been able to find any shop with this part, or even a name for it. It appears to be some sort of extension where the cable goes in, is held by a clip, and has a spring and pin which engage with the parking pawl to activate or deactivate it. From what I've read, I assume someone messed up the spring since removing the housing without removing the cable first tends to stretch the spring, and then they never replaced it.
I am also pretty sure this same setup was used in the 904 for certain years.
Past that I'm imagining I'll have to contact a junkyard and find my year of 727 or 904, but here in LA county there aren't many.
