Since ya'll should know more about this since I'm more old school (54), horsepower-wise. I have a '73 340 longblock under my workbench. Would I be better off rebuilding it (I'm going to run carb, elec. ign., etc.), or go with a newer Magnum or 5.7? I'm using it in a 72 Duster w/4-speed and 2.76 gears for now.

Thanks guys, I had collected stuff to build it like my high school car( LD340 intake, Mallory dual-point, M/T and Cal Custom Valve covers, etc.), but with all the squawk about the "hemi", I didn't think anybody would appreciate it. I drive mine or my wife's car every day, so I wasn't going too wild. Robert

Bump the compression and get some 2.02 heads and use the 340. Of course id say that, i own 8 340s and love the quick reving engine in an A body
