73+ ball joints vs earlier ball joints

Was it only the upper ball joints that switched to a larger one in 73 or wast it upper and lower?

Yes they changed lower ball joints in '73.

Upper 73' up got bigger and there were changes after that as well like 75-76'.

The bolt joint changed but they still go into the early A lower control arms.

Uppers are the same from 73-76
