73 dart gas tank overflow problem

73 dart sport 340. So this happened to both my dad and I when refueling at multiple gas stations. I know for a fact that the gas tank was nowhere near full, yet I pumped about $5 in and it started to overflow to where I could see gas in the fill tube with the nozzle out. Couldn't pump anymore after that. Used to pump fine. Any input?

Have you changed/ eliminated the carbon canister system? Changed any of the vent system?

Can't say I have. I'm not too familiar with any of that stuff.

Do yourself a favor and check for a service manual, you may chk and find one here on fabo. If you take a look in the trunk, you may see some lines coming off of your fill tube. Those I believe are your vent lines and you may have problems with them. What I think is happening is you are getting an air-lock in the system. Here is a link for some manuals
