74 Duster gas tank question

I just recently converted my slant 6 74 Duster to a 360. The gas tank appears to be rusted so I need to order a new one. I am not running any ECS. Should I buy the tank for the 70 Duster without ECS then and therefore no vent tube(s)? Also, the charcoal canister is still hooked up to the tank right now with no hoses running anywhere, could this explain why the engine smells so gassy?

I do believe the answer to your questions are both yes. But the engine issue could also be a high float condition in the carb, line leak, carb leak and even a cloged air filter. Not so much a problem with the charcol canister.
