I understand this is an a body forum but I have a question regaurding my gtx. I have a 440+6 and I found a 741 with a posi 373 in it. I understand this is the weakest of the 875 chunks Would this be too weak for my car because it is a heavy car and I'm pushing about 450 hp. Thankyou

it may be too weak, so just mp me, ill buy it from you so then you can get the right one for your car.lol

buy it, if you break the pinion, you can always use the carrier in another open chunk. (just keep the carrier bearings with the sure-grip and it will fit into a 742 or 489.

I would say $350 would be fair (for the sure grip third member), but you may be able to get it for less.

Since you need to buy one why not look for a 489 or 742 instead of buying something inferior? The 741 is a good piece, don't get me wrong, but a 440+6 in a heavy GTX and all it takes is one time hooking hard to blow it to pieces.

I have other 489s and a 742 but I kinda liked the idea of a 373 ring and pinion. I don't think the deal is gonna work out like I planned it tho. Thank y'all for all the help tho

........The hemis and max wedges used that pinion up 2 64 or 5 as that was all there was available...................kim..........oh ya my 70 duster race car uses the 741 case.....with 12.2x31.25 slicks.....runs 11.001.........been in there 10 years.................kim............

You can still get new 3:73 ring and pinions for the 742 case. I bought one a couple yrs. back. If I remember right it was by Motive gear.

My dad used to race a '63 Dodge Polara 383HP with a 4 speed and he launched that sucker on the 741 with 3:91 sure grip grinders. Never had a issue...as a matter of fact... neither have I as that chunk now resides under my Duster :)

No worries running the 741. Those things are so under rated. A 741 pinion diameter in no smaller that a 9" ford.

340Mopar is right. 741 case pinion is 1.375, Ford 9" is 1.313. As you
can see the "small" Mopar is larger than the exalted Ford 9" in pinion size,
thus should be A OK.
