8 1/4 ShurGrip

Attached is a photo of an A body 8 1/4 shur grip i bought on CL.
I feel i have to have it checked out by a professional shop before
installing it in my Barracuda. It is a little sharp on the outside of the
ring gear which makes me nervous. Looking for input if this unit is
worth putting any effort in or keep looking. It is the last unresolved
item of my build and i need to make a decision. Any input greatly
appreciated!

Hey there DR; Sharp edges are generally not good.Need to see a close-up pic of a mesh pattern.Otherwise impossible to give an opinion.
-Did it come with oil, and do you still have it? If yes,shine a lite across it at about a 45* angle and stir it up. Try a few different angles and see if you can spot the patterns that the metal filings would produce if in fact theyre in there. No streaks in old oil is a good sign.

Well after due consideration i decided to take the entire unit to Randy's Ring & Pinion for a complete rebuild including new ring & pinion with the 3:76-1 ratio to replace the stock 3.21 ratio. They will replace my cone-style shur grip with a track-loc if needed. I feel fortunate to me only 200 miles from their shop and their service department was most accomodating. Will keep posted on this issue.
