Hello,

I am considering putting a 3:55 Suregrip in my 8 1/4. There is one on Ebay for $150 plus $35 in shipping. Is this a good price? I'm a little nervous about buying a used ring and pinion. Should I be?

Thanks,

Hello and welcome to the board.

Are you saying the price is $150 for gears and a sure-grip unit? If so that's not bad. Just the SG unit costs $350-375. If that price is just for gears that's way too much. New gear sets are only about $180 from Summit. As far as used gears go if their in good condition their just fine. I would be more worried about buying a used sure-grip than gears cause the sure-grips for them are not rebuildable. Are you going to be doing the setup? If not talk to the guy who is doing it for you and see what has to say.

The price is for both the ring and pinion and the surgrip. I don't think I am going to attmept this change over. My thought was to keep the 8 1/4 since my 360 was going to be under 400 HP. I've been looking for an 8 3/4 but then I would have to change out the brakes, driveshaft and depending on the 8 3/4 the axles since I have the big bold pattern.

Thanks for your assistance on the 8 1/4 suregrip. I didn't realize these were not rebuidable.
