I'm replacing the 7.25 R-end in my 72 318 Dart. I have a 1973 8.25 A body rear (905) that's open center. I also have a 1985 8.25 from a van (3723599) that is 3.21 sure grip. My plan is to take the 1985 center and stuff it in the 1973 rear that is correct dimensions. Will this work? Will the 1973 axles fit the 1985 SG center? Thanks!

There is a thread on here by Halifax Hops. Check it out. Kim
That thread is a BEAST! I need some aspirin and my iPad has crashed 3 times. I'll grind through it tonight. My open carrier 1973 is a 2.71 and my 1985 sg is a 3.21. The. Offset looks similiar. Fingers crossed. Still open for advice but thanks for the help. This is my first in depth mopar build.

You will need the shim from the pinion off the 2.71 gears as a starting point to set up the 3.21 gears in your housing. Other than that the 8.25 is one of the easier rear ends to do.

The pinion depth shim is gauged off the housing. The gears may have a variance from zero number on the pinion. A factory service manual will chart that can help you decipher a shim change if needed. The easiest way to start is to use the shim that came set from the factory move it to your new gearset and see how the contact pattern looks
