8 3/4 rear end

I recently purchased a cut 8 3/4 rear end housing with the flange to flange measurenment of 53 1/4. I purchased two a-body axles for a standard a-body housing which measures 52 5/8. My question is there is 5/8 difference in the measurement which cut in half would be 5/16 for each axle will these be a problem. A rear end shop told me no problem. Just want some comments.

If you're using the "green" bearings, there shouldn't be a problem but if you're using the stock tapered bearings there will be. You can't get enough adjustment out of the bearing retainer to make up 5/8".....even if you could, the brake drums would probably hit the backing plates.
