8 3/4 Ring Gear Questions

I know pinion gears are matched to the ring gear but has anyone ever used a different ring gear without changing the pinion?, and if so how'd that go?
The reason I'm asking is, I picked up a clutch type sure grip yesday and a ring gear was still attached and it just so happens I have a pumpkin with the same ratio but with a chipped ring gear and immediately thought about switching good for bad.

About the only way to know is stick it in and see if it sets up a good pattern. Not likely but stranger things have happened. Only out some time to see.....

I have done 3 all Dana 60's they all worked and were quiet 1 ton ford wharf trucks .
I am not saying this is right and don't recommend it but it can be done .
