i have come across an 8.75 rear think its a b body not sure yet, pulled the axles and the chunk
I think its a posi, has springs in it also the ring gear has yhe numbers 360 10 did anyone ever make a gear set that used these. I have not actually counted them yet.
 
wipped the ring gear down tonight it says 3.91 1 has a date code of 10/17/69 also has a number 2070225. scored this complete with leaf springs for $60
 
will try to get some up, I am measuring about 44 or 44 1/2 on spring perch centers.
 
yummy! 3.91 posi.... my favorite 489 case.... send it to me! i will trade my 355 unit for 391 s
 
44" perch centers are early B body 65-67 housings! They make great swap ins for A bodies as they are only an inch wider at the perches and can be "coaxed" to fit without modification! Voila, LBP!! Just need to adjust the backspace of the time a little!!

super find...lucky you! I would leave it all as one for someone restoring.....
 
I will try to get some pics up this weekend. Already pulled the drums and axles. I think its from a B body.

One for starters, there is no such thing as a Chrysler 8.75 489 391 "posi"...........

It's called a Sure Grip. Posi is a GM term. Yeah, I'm gonna have to be that "guy"



a Cone style sure grip in unknown working condition, if you can get 400 out of just the center chuck, you'd be doing good. Lately, the cone style's are going for around 300-400 max. Complete Rear end, you're looking maybe 4 to 6 hundred tops.
 
Somebodies gotta do it. I think I did ok for $60 391 sure grip complete rear end with leaf springs. I will be at the drag strip in reynolds ga. next weekend for the lx forums race night.
I think 500 is a fair price.
 
Sell it separately the center section is worth easy 500$ not hard sell at all ! These suregrips are getting hard to find the junk yards around me are all cleaned out the days. Of finding them for 300-400$ are pretty much over unless you find some that has no idea on what they have I sold one for 650$ a few weeks ago
 
I am in Auburn Alabama bout 90 miles south of Atlanta, not gonna ship guys.
