Guy is selling 8.75 out of a 74 truck. I would like to get another center section to build, worth picking up? He's asking $150.

i would and then put axle housing on the net to get some of your $ back. 8 3/4 truck housings are few and far between.

Center sections are selling for more why wouldn’t you by it and sell the housing and axles to offset the purchase?
*Note* The pickup axle will also bolt into a Ramcharger.

I wouldn't be askin on a forum. It would already be mine.

I just wasn't sure if the center sections of the truck rear end was the same as a car. Good to know.

I have no use for the axle housing, but could use the center to rebuild for a different gears set. Gonna see if I can meet up with him.

Pay attention to the wheel bolt pattern on the axles. I think 74 was the first year they started the big ol 5.5 bolt pattern on some trucks. My cousin had a 74 Power Wagon that had that bolt pattern. I'm swapping a truck 8 3/4 housing into my 88 D100 to get rid of the Bonneville geared 9 1/4 that's in it. I bought a set of 5.5 axles for a truck 8 3/4 from a member here a few years ago so I could keep the brakes that are on the truck. Just gotta drill one hole in the backing plates and sock em on!

What year did the 8-3/4” have a bigger bolt pattern than 4-1/2” ?
I 'think' it started in 74? I got a set of 8 3/4 truck axles from @Righty Tighty a few years ago. They have the big-big bolt pattern like a Ford truck or a Jeep. They are the exact same length as the axles in the 8 3/4 truck rearend I bought at the N. GA Swap meet, but those axles have standard 4.5 bolt pattern. I'm almost positive that my cousin's old 74 Power Wagon that we used to beat around the woods in had the 5.5 bolt pattern also.

I thought the 8-3/4 went out of production around ‘73-‘74 and the 5-1/5” pattern showed up around 1985?

according to napa web site 74/75 rear brake drums for 10 or 11 in shoes are the same for b bodies with the 10 or 11 in rear brakes. and i think mr sinister is correct as the 84 i have will not take the small(4 1/2 ) bolt pattern wheels. but the 77 i have will.

I have always understood that the 5.5 pattern started in 1985. My 84 is 4.5" and sports an 8.75 from a 1975 D100. Dodge truck forums have a wealth of info concerning bolt patterns. As of 2023, anything might have been swapped into a rig. Jus' sayin'.

Mine came out of a 75 with a 440. Might have been swapped-in, but it sure looked original. I found some web info that claims the 8.75 was available in trucks 'till 76.

I had a ‘73 Dodge van short wheelbase 360 with sure grip 3.23 geared 8-3/4 that think was a go kart!!!!! My buddy had the ‘75 model almost the same as mine but no 8-3/4 I don’t remember what axle it was but it had a rear bolt on cover ( No Dana ) and it had to get a running start to just to stop

4x4s went to the 5 on 5-1/2 around 80. 2wd didn't follow til 85.

Well, I went and pulled an axle out of the 68 truck 8 3/4 I plan on putting in my 88 D100. Then I dug out one of the axles with the great big bolt pattern and they are the exact same length and splines. I bolted the larger bolt pattern axle into the housing and it fit perfect. Just for the Halibut, I measured the bolt pattern and then measured it on my 88 D100. They are exactly the same. Straight bolt in using my brakes from the existing 9 1/4 in the D100. I may have to drill the bottom hole in the backing plates on the 88 brakes, but other than that….it’s turnin bolts and relining brakes.

I will say that I am not sure they are 74 model axles. I do, however distinctly remember that my cousins 74 Power Wagon that was a long bed 4 x 4, 318 truck had the great big bolt pattern. It also had an 8 3/4 front differential too! 3.91 gears in both with a SG rear.

The 8.75 was used through 74. 72-74 part time 4-wd had 5x5.5 while 2-wd had 5x4.5. 4-wd went to 5x4.5 when it went to full-time 4-wd in 75. Was 74 for the new Ramcharger.
/6 trucks came with 3.91 gears. A lot of trucks had sure grips.
There is good demand for the truck 8.75 as they fit through 93. Housing and axles bring 250.00

Well......I guess that just clears that little mystery right up! :D Thanks!

Since your speaking of truck 8 3/4, I just picked up a 73 B200 8 3/4 489 housing with 11inch drums, 3.55 with a suregrip and the very short driveshaft. I took it apart this afternoon, everything looks perfect. Now I need to either cut this housing to 66 Dart size and get some axles OR locate an A body housing with axles/backing plates/drums. And then figure out the driveshaft situation. So looks like no Dana for me. Took me 3 months to find this within a 2 hour driving distance. Geez.
