8.75 Rear Diff Concerns

Was getting ready to take the rear diff out for complete overhaul and restore and noticed that the housing has some horrible welds and bumps around the bell. At first I thought it looked like a lousy repair job from something catastrophic in it's past. But when I check Google images, I see others just like it. Is this normal?

IDK about normal, but I've seen it from time to time. I've seen it one time,when I got one from the wreckers that has sat with water in it, which froze, and popped the seam. Then one of the yard boys "fixed" her up.If yours has no history of leaking, it will probably be fine.

Mine had some ugly welds, not quite that bad but close..

Not Leaking, but looking for thoughts on whether I should start looking for another housing.

Typical, but that is one ugly weld. Maybe the weld was insurance?
