Hey all! I think I posted in the incorrect section of the forum so I am reposting it in the drivetrain section. I recall seeing a post somewhere that an 8.8 can be fitted under a Duster without having to cut it down. I'm aware that this would cause an offset for the driveshaft but I was wondering if anyone has done this with success? I don't have a problem with cutting it down if needed, but an extra step taken out would be pretty nice. Thanks!

Do you want to risk the drive shaft rubbing the tunnel?
I doubt it. This is the specific reason that people narrow the housings by cutting the long side down to match the short side.

Leaving it full length is fine as long as you are careful with wheel selection. The video above shows that towards the end and it is on a 68 dart. I think dusters have a bit more room for tires. The offset of the drive shaft is shown as well looking down the tunnel.

Nobody wants the tire to sit close to the body on one side with a big gap on the other. I didn't see the blue Dart with the tires on but it seemed like he welded the perches to allow the axle to sit centered. It was the differential that was still off center.
