question is how much movement side to side it normal for tale shaft ...should I be able to move it with my fingers or is the bushing shot?

Some movement is acceptable, but I would call Wayne at Brewers he could give you the tolerance.
If it is excessive, you are looking at a complete tear down, there is a brass bushing in the tail shaft, and also front and rear bearings in the case.
Any stack up in play of any bearing will make the tolerances add up.

The pilot bearing, the input shaft ball bearing, the rollers in the rear of the input shaft, the ball bearing in the front of the tail housing, AND the slip yoke all work together to keep the two shafts in line.

With the trans out and the slip yoke out, you form a sort of "teeter totter" effect which allows both the input and output shaft to move considerably.
