The small b should be a number. Can you get a clear photo of the pad so I can judge the spacing between digits?

From http://www.brewersperformance.com/orderinfo.htm

Beginning with the 1968 model year (July 1, 1967), the main case has a small (3" by 7/8") raised, machined rectangular pad on the passenger side of the transmission, just above the casting number. Along with the vehicle's serial number stamped onto it, this pad will have a second line beginning with "PP833" followed by a 4-digit (10,000 day calendar) date code, such as "2264" (10-9-67) or "3055" (12-08-69) and sequential assembly number (405) for that day (pictured).

There is a 10,000 day calendar calculator here:

That would seem to indicate that your transmission was built on:

Day 5229 is Friday, November 21, 1975

It looks to be an O/Drive unit by the large front brg retainer.

Is the front brg retainer diameter 4.8 in or over 5 inches?

It looks like the first digit is a 6 for 1976 model year, so that fits too.

4.80 on retainer and I come up with March of 75
On ten thousand day clock? 5229?
