hold my beer...
I am in the process of installing the 9" in my 73 dart and figured that you guys would like to follow along with my progress...also if any of you would like to see how its done.
I am using a 9" from a 71 Early Bronco WMS-WMS is 58". in it's current state it is 28 spline, big bearing, track lock with 3.50 gears, and a C7AW case.
I am currently running a 7 1/4 that was stock behind my 318/904 combo. I have seen people say the 7 1/4 is about 57 3/4" WMS-WMS, so I am really close to the same width.
here are some measurments:
9":
yoke is ~1 15/16" offset to the passanger side of the housing
u joint is ~9" from the front of the axle tube
7 1/4:
yoke is ~1 1/8" offset to the passenger side of the housing
u joint is ~8 3/4" from the front of the axle tube
after finding all this I am getting really excited because I don't realy see any problems comming up with the pinion angle or offset. their is all kinds of room around the drive shaft in the tranny tunnel.
I have always set pinion angles with the rear in the car before but I think I am going to try something different this time and set it up on a bench with the rear out of the car. I currently have the housing preped and am getting ready to rebuild the track lock that I have setting on the shelf. I am planning to complete the swap in the next week or two depending on how much time I got between work and the home life.
