904 Id

I need help identifying the 904 in my 67 Barracuda. With this car being over 40 years old I`m not sure if the transmission is original or not. I`m chasing a vibration in this car. Shouldn`t 68 and newer have a VIN on it? As I understand it, IF the trans is a 68 or up the converter is splined differently from the 67 trans. and is not compatible with the 67 crank pilot hole without some sort of bushing. If I can find the year of the trans then I can go a step further to see if it`s compatible with the crank or if could it be causing a vibration for lack of that pilot bushing. Is there a quick way to look at the trans and see if it`s 67 or earlier or 68 or newer. Any help would be appreciated.

On the tail there will be 68' or 6-8[for instance] and lil boxes [12] that the ones with dots sum up the month.

Yes 67' and earlier have small snout converters and have fewer splines so that if you used a 68' up converter with a 67' earlier trns it would not go anywhere or f anything up for that matter, it 'd just be the wrong converter[different spline count].

Just in case anyone doesn't know you can enlarge the converter pilot hole on the back of v8 cranks no problem, not slant 6 though for the inner/outer pilot's are both small diameter [not enough material].
