904 no forward gears

I just drove 35 miles no problems, waiting in line at the car show, shut it off waited about 2 min fired it back up and i have no forward gears, reverse works great, anybody ever encounter this problem?? the trans is fresh i did not build it and never took the pan off, came with the car.

Yes like a half a pint down no enough to worry about, and i have a deep pan. no leaks

What do you mean by the "trans is fresh"?

Have you confirmed that the shifter arm has been adjusted properly to engage the gears?

I realize you drove it there, but if the shift arm on my 904 is even slightly off the mark, it will not move after it warms up. It's very finicky.

Also, how does the fluid color look?

deep pan is meaningless unless the filter also has the correct spacer.

HAVE TO ASK... you are checking the fluid level with the engine running and the trans in Park or Neutral.

is your throttle position lever attached and properly adjusted?

I have check the trans fluid with engine running in neutral, i have a Hurst quarter stick shifter, goes in and out of gears, trans was rebuilt, like i said i was driving the car with no problems, then i shut off engine, and just like that no forward gears, it engages hard into reverse and i can drive it backwards, i have killed some transmission in the past, and they are slow death not an instant one.

If fluid and linkage adjustment is good I would drop the valve body and air test, rear clutch piston seal may have blown.
