So it looks like my 60 yo butt may get a job again, after 2 years. Quick lowdown; 70 Duster 340, purple 234, .484 cam, pistons .017 out, ld4b, 727 reverse manual with 3500 stall. Hasn't left jackstands since work started in 1987, 10 pt cage.

So back then, I put in a narrowed Dana spool, 4.88. 4 link. Reading lately, I will be running too much rpm in the 1/4. Trying to make a jig for 31 or 32" tall tire (tubbed to 21" at top of fenderwell), the only way I can find to fit the tire is trimming the front quarter ( wish I had moved it back before I had the driveshaft built). add on, I think I need at least 16" wide for street.

So, what do you think it will spin in the traps? Any options other than going 4.11? A lot of you guys in here have more real world practice, thanks.

The 340 could handle the 4.88 gear with the right cam. If its just a drag car i let it be. Might want to run a solid cam so it buzz cleanly pass 7,000 and run a 29--30 inch tire.

For the street it be too much........1987, and I thought I was slow, lol

4.86 on a 30inch tire at 3300lbs 6900-7000 rpm 5.13 around 7300

32 inch/4.88's is like a 27" tire with 3.91 gears. No way is it too much gear.
