I have a 74 dart that is missing the speedometer cable and I've purchased a have purchased a replacemant. My question, I seem to remember that there is some type of clip that holds the cable to the back of the cluster, is this correct or does the cable end just slip onto the back of the speedo in the cluster?

The clip is built into the end of the cable housing. The trigger is in the white plastic end.
Just slide the cable onto the speedo far enough for the clip to grab the housing. I'd pack the end with some lithium grease before installation.
