I have a 74 SE 4dr that will have a 440 in it by summers end. The car has the oem front sway bar, new poly bushings, shocks and sub frame connectors. It is a slant car. here are my questions

Will a rear sway bar help me out for a fun car not racing 1/4's

What size torsion bars do you recommend?

Rear sway bar is not supposed to help handling on an "A" body. .94 to around 1.00 torsion bars are good but they are stiff. Also get yourself some HD rear springs.
 

Check out Hellwig's stuff. I have their front and rear bar on my 69 Bcuda. Handles great! Dave from Hellwig is a member here and very helpful!

Not sure where that info comes from...but I completely disagree! The rear bar from Helllwig made a noticeable difference on my car!

It comes from road racing. In a properly set up "A" body (large torsion bars, big front sway bar, good rear leafs, good shocks, and tires) the car is almost neutral (no understeer, no oversteer) without a rear sway bar. Depending on your setup this may be different. The "Green Brick" did not run a rear bar, if I remember correctly, and others, I can not remember off the top of my head, did not either. I took note when I was putting my car together, even though I do have a factory rear bar, and did not use the rear bar.
 
I changed the stock front sway bar for a 1 1/8th, kept the 892/893 torsion bars. a year later I added the rear 7/8th' sway bar. You better believe it made a difference! It became very neutral in corners, very predictable and way more fun to drive. The rear would "hang out" without it. Just a little oversteer.
