A little Late...

Your painting is very good. I've been painting for 45 years, and I say it looks good.
How many coats of clear did you put on? I always put on 3 or 4 fat coats on so I have plenty for sanding and polishing.
What Kind of a gun do you use? The paint looks good.

Thank you! I did 4 coats of PPG Omni Ga4 winchester gray, and 3 Fat coats as you say, of SPI universal clear. That stuff sprays so nice! Easy 1:1 mix ratio and very forgiving! I used a harbor freight black widow spray gun.
It's not perfect, but I got it where I am happy with it and won't be too upset when it gets a little chip or scratch, like I would if it was a show piece. Still will get upset, but maybe I won't murder someone over it!

Saw on the old race car thread, a bronze notchback w/white vinyl top that really looked great! Race wheels & setup probably helped.
And I never ever liked a white vinyl top. But that combo made the car look so good it made me appreciate notchbacks much more than I ever thought I would.
& I had my eye on a NB yrs ago when still in Indy that seldom moved, before it disappeared.
Turbine Bronze Convertible probably looks good with a white top, too.

NOTHING wrong with the Black Widow. I've been painting cars as a serious hobby for about 45 years. I've gotten pretty good at it. I have a few pretty nice guns, but I recently used the Black widow, and I would honestly say it is at least 90% as good as my Iwata Supernova. I have been helping my good friend Mark restore a rough 56 Studebaker Power Hawk for about 6 years. We finally got around to painting it last fall. I do the spraying, but it is awesome to have an assistant to mix paint and help keep the hose from twisting up. Anyway, he had heard a lot of good stuff about the Black widow, and he wanted us to try one. It was awesome. I used it for the entire car, and I was extremely impressed. It sprayed sealer, base and clear perfectly. I would highly recommend them. Here are a few pictures of the painting I did with one. Keep in mind that these parts have not been wet sanded and polished yet. If you are getting too much orange peel with your gun, most clear coats will allow up to 10% of reducer to be added. That will help. Also play around with the pressure and volume controls. I wet sand with 1000 until most of the orange peel is gone, then 1500 until all the orange peel is gone, then 2000, 2500 and 3000.

Impressive work Harrison!
And also about 1000% more work than I'll ever put into paint work, even if I did have the talent and drive..... which I don't, lol.

If you want to succeed at EVERY project you start on, just do like me and set your sights very low! Then you're guaranteed to finish every project!

So installed the trunk seal and used the 3m weatherstrip adhesive. Used the clothes pins like the method I found on here. Let them set for 24 hours then removed the pins. We'll now its set for 24 hours without the clothes pins and it doesnt seem like the seal is going back to normal. Still has all the pin marks. Anyone else have this issue? The seal is from DMT.

You, me, and others are having issues with uploaded pictures today. The consensus is that the site is wonky. Try again tomorrow.

What is the temperature there? maybe use a hair dryer across the areas where the seal is depressed? Just my opinion.
It's been warm. Mid 70s during the day. Im flying to Alaska right now for a few days. If it's still like that when I get back, im gonna hit it with the heat gun and see what that does.

If the rumble strips don't straighten up out of the seal when you try the heat gun, you may have to get another seal. Seems like the last one I installed, I remember using paint stir sticks on top between the clamps and the seal, just to kind of spread the load like a washer does for a bolt head. First one I ever did, I ruined the seal and got to start over because I just ran a bead of weatherstrip glue and stuck it down. I didn't know at the time that you're supposed to apply the contact cement to both parts, allow the glue to get tacky and then put the seal on. However, I did get lucky and my wife didn't catch me not reading the instructions clearly printed on the tube of contact cement! :realcrazy:

Well, they never came out. I ripped it all off and got a new one. Figured out something putting on the new one. Applied the 3m weatherstrip adhesive on a portion. Applied the seal then pulled it back off a little bit for about 5 to 10 seconds, then applied it back. Sticks right away and no need for clamps at all. Doesn't take much adhesive. Just worked all the way around in sections.

Got a little progress done today. Got the gauges and Tach from Herbs parts put in with the external voltage limiter. And Got the bezel done. It's not perfect, but good enough I am happy with it.

Finally got the passenger door glass, trim and seals all in and adjusted. Glad my rear windows roll up and down smooth and I can just clean everything up and lube it. Door glass is pain enough! I'm sure the back ones are more of a pain! Now to tackle the drivers door glass!:BangHead:

Got the tail lights and trunk trim on. Now to try and get everything to line up a little better. Need to get some new back up light bezels. Tried powder coating mine chrome, but heat and pot metal doesn't work. I'm going with adhesive Barracuda script. My studs on mine weren't long enough to re-attach it. Got to say this has to be one of the sexiest rear ends Ma Mopar made!
