METV is playin the old BW versions of Gunsmoke!!! I never realized what a doofus Chester was, LOL
 
He damn sure was. He makes Fetsus look like a genius......but then Festus was really smarter than he let on.
 
We begged our Dad one summer (1965?) to let us keep a stray dog we found (or found us). He was not even considering it until a very good friend of his (who he had not seen in a long while) dropped by for a visit. The friend became a spokesman for us kids and Dad finally gave in. The friend insisted that if we keep the dog, we had to name him "Festus". We did and he was a great pet. Never knew another Festus in real life, besides the TV character.

Mule was by choice per the script.
 
I used to love watching that show with my Grandma. She never called it Gunsmike though, always called it "Dillon".
