This thing just popped up for sale on fakebook

MANY years ago, there were for a time these "silly" (and maybe dangerous to car electrical systems) "generators" and "welders." In the Spokane area, there was an outfit that rewound average everyday Delco alternators to allegedly output 130A. Now the thing IS there is this thing called "duty cycle." You could maybe build a 1 pound generator that would put out 130A....for a few seconds.

HERE is how these things worked: You had a switchbox (see photo) with a heavy duty multi-pole toggle swich and a 120V AC outlet.

In the "run" mode, the toggle switch had the alternator connected for normal operation. But when you switched the toggle , this DISconnected the alternator from BOTH the regulator AND the battery, and connected the alternator output to the outlet box, and connected the field to the car battery "full field" and by adding throttle, the output voltage would go sky-high........and provide somewhere around 110V DC, not AC to run "some things." AND SOME OF THESE ladies and gents were claimed to be "welders."

This one here is "fancied up" from the usual. It might actually use a relay for switching.

Alternator fire! A smell you'll never get out of the vehicle.
