i have a 3 speed a230 would like to know what it came out of. has a stamping number of 821 in paint.tailshaft number is 3410995 date code 1971,case cast number c-99224-2. stamped pp2303625 0292. any help would be great. and what is it worth ?

I can't help much with the identification, but I have seen them go locally for around 200 bucks (give or take). I think it all depends on the condition and where you're at geographically.

no vin number stamped on it . i thought that the 821 was the last three numbers of the part number on broadcast sheet or part number.

My book doesn't list any of those numbers. The 230 came on line about 1969 or 70 as I recall.
-The PP number seems to indicate a much earlier date. (like early 60s)
-The tailshaft pn seems to indicate about 1970/71.
-I agree the 821 is probably the the last 3 digits of the PN, which would probably put it into 1971.I do find a code 825 for a 71/72-383, and a code 830 for a 71- 340. The code for a 1970-340 is 765. That's as close as I can get......

The A-230s in trucks were not stamped with a VIN.

The 821 should be the last three digits of the part number for the assembled unit, got a photo?

I bought 4 slant sixes and four transmissions including three 904s and an A230 for 300 bucks. So there's some perspective for worth.
