A518/46RH transgo TFOD-HD2 shift kit install

Hole R?
The new plate has a hole R. I’ve heard not to install the check ball here but the instructions appear to say to install it if the hole is there. Replaced check ball as per instructions.
Any input would be appreciated.

Not sure if it’s a must do but I think you might be able to unbolt and pry the overdrive housing up just past the fluid tubes, an inch maybe, to rotate it enough in order to get the pin out sufficiently. It doesn’t have to rotate very far. The instructions make it sound like not every transmission has the pin blocking boss. Had I known I would have tried to do it that way. It’s the end bushing that’s a tight friction fit making it difficult to pry up and then back down as long as everything is aligned properly.

Install fluid tube bracket and tube on lower valve body.

Page 8: steps 1 & 3 skipped as they don’t apply to this particular build.
Step 2 install the new heavier lockup bracket on the upper valve body.

Ok, need a little help here.
Installing the tfod-hd2 kit on my A500/42rh.

Page four. Show taking off the PT body, changing a spring, adding a transfer plate, and driving in a small pin into one of the holes under the cover.
My valve body doesn't have a PT body on it !
So, I just skip everything on this page? Only part I could do is the pin on the hole.
Any insight would be helpful.
See pics

Well Crap.

Just got off the phone with Transgo, they couldn't believe it doesn't have a PT body on it. He say's the part throttle feature came out in like '76. So he's thinking someone has placed a different valve body in this trans. Tranny is from an '89 dakota that supposedly only had 78K miles on it. Hard to believe someone would have swapped out valve body's , but who knows.
Anyway, he walked me through some other changes i'd have to make to the tfod install. But bottom line is I will not have part throttle kickdown. A feature I like on my current 904.
He said he didnt think I could just add the pt body, i'd probably just have to buy a complete new valve body that has PT.

Post up a picture of the rest of the valve body pieces, it should have a solenoid block on it with 2 solenoids if it came from any kind of 42RH/A500

Only pics on my phone are of it still on the tranny. But yes it's got the two solenoids for o/d and lockup. And of course the 3 pin connector that sticks up through the case.

Very strange, that's definitely the right valve body that would have came from that year transmission, you can tell its an early model by the lack of a lockup boost tube, this makes me want to go home and check my '88 and see if its the same as yours without the PT body.

Valve body’s back in with parking pall rod E clip reinstalled. Waiting for new filter & pan gasket.

What year does the date "clock" read on that portion of the valve body?

Didn't know there was one. I'll check it out when I get home later.

Edit:
These are the only number I can find on that section of the valve body. Not sure how to read the date.

Picture number 1 shows the "clock" with the "8" in the center, that should be a 1988 and the surrounding pattern will have dimples representing the moth of production. So it likely is an 89. No part throttle housing, should be able to be added to this set up. Why it didn't have one is kookie.

Thanks, '89 is good cause that's what it is supposed to have come out of.

As far as adding the PTK, I have already purchased one from a member here. Hopefully will have it next week and I can finish up my Transgo install.
Pretty strange for sure that it didn't have it .

Another question about the transgo kit.

I'm getting ready to drill out the 1-2 and 2-3 holes in the separator plate.

What size should I go on the holes? Use the largest in the range they give? Or go middle of the road.
Their specs are divided into Towing/HD, and Street toys. So I assume I fall into the Street toys category. So for the 1-2 hole they give a range of .093 to .106
And for the 2-3 holes the range is .125 to .135
Bigger hole = firmer shift.
So my question, go big or go home? Or go middle of the range somewhere?

What did you do?

I drilled the 1-2 to .106” and the 2-3’s to .125”.
This was primarily based on what I have for bit sizes. I have to think anything in the range will give a firm shift. I won’t know how it really shifts until the tranny install which I plan in the fall.
