a518 in a 66 dart? how bad is it?

this must come up often, but how much hacking is required to put the a518 od auto in an a body?

i have a mag 318 and matching od auto that i want to put in a 66 dart (that i dont have yet)

A lot in an early A. Use the search function as this question comes up about once a week. You should find plenty of information on it.

The "A" trans tunnel is only about 4 inches tall from the trans mount to the top of the tunnel, so if you want to use your original crossmember, youll have to drop it big time for the 518 as shown in the web page. Even the truck 727 Im dealing with has a 4.5 tall tailshaft so Ill be doing the dropped crossmember thing on mine. Car 727's fit, but not the HD truck tailshafts and certainly not the 518 with stock parts.
