I recently swapped out my A833 4 speed for an A833 OD.

All in an effort to actually use our car, as a car, and go on long distance trips, uncluding Power Tour 2025, for us a 2,500 mile round-trip.

The idea was to swap my original A833 back in when I got home - nope!

I drive it everywhere now, multiple states and events, no complaints.

Don't believe the negative hype, our Barracuda is no slouch, and the trans does everything very well.

Imo, stop searching for a magic bullet one size fits all no modifications needed bolt in option - it doesn't exist in the aftermarket.

Plus, it's inexpensive, readily available, and an actual direct bolt in.

Of course, I thought the car was prepped and ready to go anywhere, but cars will be cars and people, me, will be stupid.

I filmed the struggle to get the car ready within a few weeks.

Enjoy, or not.

While the od box is sorta fine for stock cammed, or low-performance SBMs, outside that,
the only good thing to say about the A833 od, behind a stout 360, IMO, is that it's cheaper than a GVod.
In the end, after blowing three of the M/S overdrive gears up, I just bit the bullet and made the call.

But, I am glad it worked for you.

Exactly, it works, behind a stout efi tunnel ram topped big block with gobs of power and torque.

Whether low or high performance it's a missed opportunity for those looking to get out on the road and drive.

Good times.

I love that green Cuda. Just the right amount of patina and attitude.

I'm struggling with the same question while putting my 73 Cuda back together. Swapping a A833 for the 727 and I have both standard close ratio and OD version. I had a OD in a 77 Aspen RT with a weak 318. I thought it drove fine but that was 35+ years ago. The 340 going in has 470hp and I'm sure the OD will be better for day to day driving around and highway, but I also want to run it on some big road courses like Road America and maybe some Auto-X. Glad you are enjoying it. That's what is important.

Day to day with either trans was fine.
I haven't done any road courses, but I did upgrade the suspension, and with either trans it was a blast to carve some corners.

Based on everything I've read over the years, and my current setup, I wouldn't even consider an A833 OD.

A friend's first hand experience with an OD and Power Tour coming up fast, convinced me to give it a shot.

I wanted to take my Dart to Carlisle, but with 3.55s I didn't want to give myself a headache for 6hrs straight.

Might swap that car as well, the alternative, strictly drive it local, which we've worn out, it's not as fun as long distance.

Whatever you do, get out there and drive.
