Numbers don't make any sense to me. I am guessing a aluminum case o/d? The front lever is pointing down and the case is aluminum. (looks like it)

Yes sorry I should have added that. It is an O/D 4 speed. I was told it would fit the A-body but the tail looks long.

Ok so I think mine is the B body. Is there any way I can use it with the A-Body? If the only difference is the driveshaft, can I just shorten mine?

View attachment 1715194619 How about a pic of the tail shaft. That a pic of A vs B
Those are both A body tailshaft housings. The one on the right is from a ball and trunion transmission, so pre1965.

A B-body tail housing will have the shifter mount forward of the transmission to cross member mount and all A bodies have the shifter mount behind the transmission to cross member mount

Post a pic of the whole transmission, like step back and show the whole length of it.

Over 50 years time a lot of them have had parts swapped so only way to tell what you have is show the whole thing

Ok so here is a pic of the complete transmission. The total lenth from where it bolts to bell housing to end of tall is 27”.

Looks like an OD out of a truck or van. The adaptor plate on the shifter is the first giveaway and the rear shifter mount doesn't look like the holes were ever tapped. I would say for sure truck / van of the late 70s .

That can be used in an a body but with a lot of modification, you need to make a custom shifter plate and use the rear mount.

You can make it work but for the effort, I don't think it's worth it. I tried the same thing years ago and what a pain

I thought the rear mount was for E body’s? Can I just swap out the tail with an abody tail?

That is an option to swap out the tail but you need the main shaft and that tail housing. The cost of those items may come close to just replacing the whole unit with a proper A body transmission unless you just happen to have those parts.

It requires complete disassembly to swap out the main shaft but if you were going to rebuild it anyways......
