Recently, my A904 (slant six, column shift) has been kicking out of reverse when I am backing up and turning the steering wheel. So, it seems it is maybe the shift gate in the column and not related to the transmission itself, but it could be the linkage at the tranny (I looked and it appears to be in adjustment, nothing out of the ordinary). Has anyone ever had this situation? Reverse works fine, it's just the column shift lever kicks into neutral when I'm backing up, if I put it back in R it works fine, but sometimes if I turn the wheel in R it kicks into N again. Something in the column?

Check the motor and transmission mounts for breakage/movement. Hood open, put it in gear with your foot hard on the brake and parking brake set then give it some gas. Drive and Reverse, you will see the motor rock. Try and make a correlation between the movement and jumping out of gear.

Thank you for the tip!
