I needed to do a blower mod and couldn't find any for an AC blower, so came up with this that worked better than expected.
I cut the radius at the rear of the AC box like most do for any blower mod. I only cut enough out to clear the wheel by 1/8 inch or so. I used a jig saw and drilled a few relief holes.
I searched Amazon for rubber isolators like the OEM install and ended up with some metric ones. I needed an inch tall and 3/4 diameter so got pretty close with a metric size and cost was about 11 bucks shipped for 4. Only need 3.
I disassembled the motor from the mounting ring and placed the isolators inside the ring instead of outside like OEM. This gained about an inch and a half, which is enough to enable use of my MP valve covers. I can remove and install the valve covers without any trouble.
First picture is the protrusion of the wheel into the void area between the AC section and the heater section. I had to drill out the 2 rivets and remove the sheet metal ring that fills this area. It is installed on the heater section.
I don't anticipate any issue here as the new foam gasket fills the area between the sections.
Next is a picture of the new isolators and how I put them inside the blower mounting ring. I was also able to use the new rubber gasket around the motor, but have to trim a slight amount that covers the vent hole on the bottom of the motor. I slid the wheel to the bottom of its travel on the shaft. There is no interference.
The finished product installed in the car. I did not take a before picture, but the valve cover was unusable with OEM installation.
