Adding Tru Trac to 489

Changing to 3.91 and adding Tru Trac to my 489.
I see 30 and 33 spline axles listed, with the 33 spline being more expensive. Any info on that?
As well as the spline count on my pinion. I was hoping to not have to take it apart and leave it apart for a week.
My memory isn't what it used to be.

You're going into the 489 ditch that crush sleeve and put a solid sleeve in it. Best upgrade a 489 can have.

Thanks for the info, now if I can find out if there is only one Eaton Tru Trac for this 489.
The axles are stock, I suppose they are 30 spline?

The Tru Trac is the same across all three cases 741, 742, & 489. Stock axles are 30 spline. Make sure the "axle shaft thrust spacer" that comes with the Tru Trac is slipped in before you pop the third member in. That spacer is needed with stock axles.

The crush sleeve and shims MAKE no difference in strength.

(crush collar) One makes it far faster and easier to set preload
(shim spacing) The other takes much more time and is harder to get it perfect.

There is no strength issue between them.

Then you need more brain then brawn to do the job correctly.

It is faster and easier, but you need to go slowly and make very very very little adjustments once you get into some load.

Crush sleeves are supposed to be one-time use, and if you go too far its time to buy another one; more down time. Ditch the sleeve.
