Adjustable Rocker Set Up/How To Video?

Hey Folks,

Hoping to get the Duster rolling again after nearly a two year hiatus. I've never set up adjustable rockers (old Mopar SB ones) and have scoured the site and internet for a good "Setting Up Mopar Adjustable Rocker for Dummies" type video. The videos I've found assume a certain level of knowledge/undstanding....that I don't have yet LOL! That said, does anyone have or are aware of a very basic how-to video out there for those of use that are new to the process? This is the last thing I need ot figure out to get the old girl back on the streets. Thanks in advance!

This is how I've always done this. It's less confusing. Yes, you can start at TDC and turn over using the chart but this is for dummies like myself lol. I do this with a Bump start swicth.

Valve Lash Adjustment



Starting at Number 1 cylinder, rotate the engine until the exhaust rocker just starts to open the exhaust valve. Set the valve lash on the intake rocker at this time. Continue rotating the assembly and stop when the intake rocker starts returning from full lift. Now the lash on the exhaust rocker can now be set. Continue this procedure for the remaining cylinders following the engine’s firing order.

If setting preload for Hydraulic lifters remove up and down play on pushrod then add ¼ to ½ turn of preload. Some people say tighten until you it gets hard to turn the pushrod then set preload I don’t agree with this method as the lifter may not be pumped up. JMO. If the motor was just running then yes this works.



This method works on almost any flat tappet engine
 
What works best for ME is getting each lobe on the base circle one at a time. No charts, no methods, just close the valve and go about 1/4 turn more with the engine and that's perfect. It's worked well for me for dang near fifty years.
