Hey fellow A-bodiers :)

I'm in the early stages of investigating airbag options for my 1970 VG Valiant Hardtop (Aussie built), running small block. For all intents and purposes, it is the same as the 1968/1969 Dodge Dart.

Before I delved too deep, thought I would see what people's experience has been with installing airbags.

I wasn't sure if there would be issues with the torsion bars as well (will they need upgrading or any mods?).

There seem to be limited off the shelf options I could find online... So maybe it is a custom job? Otherwise, are there other makes/models that can be customised to A body? E.g. B or E body?

I can do basic mods myself and will get a fabricator for the meaty welds :D

Would love to hear your advice and experience.

I don't want to spend erroneous amounts of money, although happy to hear about all levels of budget or whether there's a particular set or combination of components that provide a good trouble free solution.

Thanks!

Surprisingly I can't find an actual B body being tested with this set-up. Anyone?

You could buy a 4 link kit and add the shocks and stronger UCA's but those shocks are $900 a pair.

The Reilly Motorsports Street-Lynx system (PN RMS553, $1,995) is a complete kit that converts your leaf spring rear into an adjustable four-link without any major fabrication. Only an upper crossbar needs to be welded in between the existing frame rails.

Those air-over shocks seem to be basically a different version of a coil over. I'd think any system designed for coilovers would work with air-over type shocks.
