Actually, the Matador's were AMCs answer for NASCAR. They did reasonably well & could even be had with a 401. My Dad had a "Matador X" -- kind of a performance version but he opted for the 304 in it. Most AMCs had junk for brakes so getting something that size to stop was a joke. I kinda liked the car & you never see any around --would make kind of a neat retro- NASCAR for the street, though.
