Hi Fabo!
Not to be overly analytical here but on my disc brake swap on my '65 Barracuda, my calipers will be on the rear and and I looked at the '79 Volare hoses at these places:

Oreilly's hose #Part # BH88971
  • Front Left
  • Length (In): 17-3/8 Inch
Part # BH88972
  • Front Right
  • Length (In): 17-3/16 Inch
And NAPA has

Brake Hose - Left Front
PART # :
UP 3683
Brake Hose Length 15.25"

Brake Hose - Right Front

PART # :
UP 36831
Brake Hose Length 15.31"

How much hose length is actually necessary & would the shorter hoses suffice?

Or is it just a difference in how manufacturers "measure" their products?

Thanks FABO!

What is your disc brake set up from? If it's the 73-up you need the 73-6 A body hoses. I forget which way my calipers are on.

i just got a 90 degree banjo fitting, opened it up to about 60 degrees and a regular 10" or 12" inch
rubber brake hose..can't remember the exact size....but you get the idea.

My Bad!! The donar car is a '74 Dart..those hoses suffice?

Ok, so, if you mount the calipers to the rear you should not use 73+ A body hoses, you should use the Volare hoses. The A-body hoses are too short for proper hose routing.

As far as the Orielly vs Napa hoses, they're the same length. For the O'reilly hoses you've specified the overall length, and for the Napa hoses you specified the hose length. But both hoses have a metal block and tube for a banjo bolt. The hose length is just the rubber part. Take a look at the specs for each one...

Both hoses have an overall length a little over 17", and a hose length of over 15", just a fraction to decimal difference in length between the two really. Probably the same length in reality, one may have been listed in metric and converted.

For a '73 Dart, the hoses are only 15" with a 12" hose section, and they're too short.

That all said, there are some different styles of hoses out there, and you can't always depend on the parts folks to get you the right parts.

Thank you 72blunblu for bringing that to my attention!
